In September of 2017, I got a text message while at work about a friend...a soul sister, had been in a terrible accident. Gurudarshan had been on her way to photograph the eclipse in Oregon when the RV she was traveling in took an unexpected turn off the road and rolled a few times before crashing into a tree. The result was a major confusion and the entire left side of her body being smashed. In her surviving haze, she underwent multiple surgeries including a hip replacement, skin graphing, and wrapping a metal coil around her split femur. I was with her every Tuesday for support, to give love, to help in any way I could. Over the course of 2 months, I watched Gurudarshan, now Ginko Ma, transform through her pain, anger, grief, appreciation for life, and survival. I did my best to understand her struggles with no advocate. At some point, her being an artist, she asked me to take photos and document as much of her process and progress as I could.
The result is this mini series.
